The Standing Committee is responsible for approving ordinations of clergy, consenting to elections of bishops of The Episcopal Church, and advising and consenting to various official actions of the Bishop. In the absence of an elected Bishop, the Standing Committee “stands” as the ecclesiastical authority until a new Bishop is elected and consecrated.
