Discernment

Holy Orders Information

The Holy Orders Handbook has been temporarily removed from the site as the Commission on Ministry works with Bishop Prior to make thoughtful focused changes, prayerfully shaped by the needs of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. It is our hope that this ‘pause’ in inviting new aspirants into discernment will be both fruitful and brief, and we are sorry for any frustration it causes in the meantime. We encourage congregations to consider engaging in gifts discernment work (such as Lifekeys www.lifekeys.com) and to explore further how the many and valuable gifts for ministry of those considering ordination might be engaged further, until this ‘pause’ comes to a close.

Please direct inquiries as follows:

  • For those presently in active discernment for the priesthood begun before May 2010, contact the Rev. Joanie Delamater, revjoanie@comcast.net
  • For those who are presently postulants or candidates for ordination with a question about the process ahead, contact Karen Olson (karen.o@episcopalmn.org) at the Bishop’s Office, or COM Co-Chairs Martha Beckwith, mjbeckwith@comcast.net, and the Rev. Katherine Sedwick,ksedwick@aol.com.

The Diaconate

The Episcopal Church of Minnesota has two assistants to the Bishop for the diaconate that are in ministry on behalf of the diocese, The Rev. Mary Jo Feely Deacon for Pastoral Care and The Rev. Steve Judd, Deacon for Administrative Matters. In addition to their congregational deployments, Steve and Mary Jo have agreed to assist Bishop Prior in coordinating the diaconate. Contact Mary Jo or Steve about Deacon discernment process, Deacon formation program, Deacon deployment requests, Education for clergy and congregations regarding servant-leader ministry, and/or general questions about deacons and their ministry.
