The Minnesota Episcopal Environmental Stewardship Commission‘s mission statement is “We believe creation is a gift of God, and all creation is interconnected. We seek to instill this spiritual awareness in parishioners, clergy, and staff of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota; and to promote stewardship of and advocacy for planet Earth.”
The Commission sponsors Creation Season, creating and distributing a collection of environmental and earth-centered reflections, sermons, and commentaries on the lectionary readings. In 2011, Creation season is in May. Additionally, MEESC develops thematic materials focused on specific liturgical times and others are focused on tailored activities.
The Commission also oversees the Mary Brown Environmental Center, providing spirit-based environmental education for small groups and families and a home base for canoeing, hiking, biking, golfing, and fishing in the heart of Minnesota’s largest wilderness.
