Important Information for 2012 Budget Planning in Your Faith Communities

We have received several questions about outcomes from the 2011 Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota that impact the development of budgets for 2012 for each faith community.

  • No cost of living adjustment (COLA) was approved for 2012. This does not preclude each faith community having the important conversation about still offering a COLA. Accordingly, the Priest and Transitional Deacon Minimum Compensation table remains unchanged from 2011.
  • 2012 Mission and Ministry Support (MMS) formula: Congregations with Line A Revenue from their 2010 Parochial Report of $300,000 or more will be assessed at the rate of 13.0% of Line A. Congregations with Line A Revenue from their 2010 Parochial Report of less than $300,000 will be assessed at the rate of 11.0% of Line A. Use the 2012 MMS Calculator for Congregations.
  • Self-Employment Tax Allowance (SECA, a.k.a. Social Security). Click the link for more information.
  • 2012 Priest and Transitional Deacon minimum compensation guide

The full set of Apportionment, Compensation/Benefits, Insurance and Tax Policies, Procedures and Guidelines is being revised and updated and will be available following review by the Council Finance and Personnel Committees.
