The Bishop

The Bishop’s ministry is to represent Christ and his Church, particularly as apostle, chief priest, and pastor of a diocese.  Bishops lead and oversee the mission and ministry of the church, and serves a symbol of unity for faith communities as we engage in God’s mission in our varied contexts.  In the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, our Bishop serves as the Chief Executive of ECMN, and the Bishop’s role in church property transactions is to receive the advice and consent of the elected bodies (the Trustees and the Standing Committee) and to exercise primary stewardship over the assets of the church, ensuring that they are available for the entire Church and for God’s mission in this generation and for future generations.  A written authorization from the Bishop is required for nearly all transactions involving church property.
