See you at CONVENTION!

See you at CONVENTION!

Beloved in Christ,

I am so excited to gather together with many of you this week for diocesan convention. It will be the first time we have gathered formally and in person as a diocese since January 25, 2020. Unbelievable.

We will begin with an open house get together for anyone who is in town on Thursday evening, October 27, from 6:00-8:00 at Calvary Church. The historic church right across the street from the Mayo Clinic will be open for light refreshments and a time to celebrate being together. Calvary is a quick walk from the Kahler and Marriott, and I hope many of you will join us.

There is always important business to attend to at convention, and I’m always profoundly moved by the formal, disciplined, and beautiful process by which all four orders of ministry reflect and discern God’s call together. But Convention is so much more than getting in and out, moving through our business as efficiently as possible. As the baptized faithful, we share an identity, we who are beautifully diverse are one body, and part of what we are called to do in convention is simply recognize and delight in the gift we have in one another. Convention is about renewing our bonds of affection that strengthen us for what God calls us to do. That feels especially important after not having it for two and a half years.

It will be a wonderfully joyful moment to begin gathering Thursday evening. I look forward to meeting Jesus again in each of you, to laughing, praying, playing, and doing the work we have been given the unspeakable privilege of being called into together.

See you tomorrow!!
