Lent 1: The Rev. Dr. Dorothy White

The Rev. Dr. Dorothy A. White is the fourth of five children born to Oscar and Dorothy White of Knoxville, Tennessee.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.  She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Theology from Oral Roberts University.  And, in 1995, Dorothy was ordained as a Baptist minister and later  served at First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Dumfries, Virginia.  

Dorothy moved to Richmond in 2001 in order to work on a Doctor of Ministry degree at the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University.  She graduated in 2005.  Upon moving to Richmond Dorothy began serving at St. Catherine’s Episcopal School. She served at STC from 2001 until the summer of 2019.

Dorothy was ordained as a Transitional Deacon in the Episcopal Church in 2014. She served at historic St. John’s Church.  While at St. John’s Dorothy worked with a team of members to develop and implement a program called, “Conversations in Black and White.”  Through these workshops opportunities continued to develop to assist the Diocese in working toward Racial Healing and Inclusion.  Following her ordination as an Episcopal priest in 2015, Dorothy continued to lead similar workshops in Episcopal churches in the Diocese.

In July 2022 Dorothy relocated to Minneapolis to serve as the Interim Chaplain and Religion Department Chair at Breck School in Golden Valley.
