When Prayer Moves: Highland Bridge Prayer Walk

The English preacher Charles H Spurgeon once said: “prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of omnipotence.”

Members of Messiah Episcopal Church located in Highland Park, St. Paul, will soon gather for a second time to walk through one of St Paul’s newest residential and retail neighborhoods, Highland Bridge. Once the site of the old Ford assembly plant, Highland Bridge is host to Lunds & Byerlys grocery store, an M Health Fairview clinic, several retail businesses, and a Spanish immersion school that is expected to open soon. More significantly, the Highland Bridge neighborhood is where hundreds of St Paul’s newest residents now call home. During these walks, we pause to observe those around us and listen to what God is placing on our hearts. We praise Him, give thanks to Him, and offer our intercessory prayers for everyone we encounter.

Many of the Highland Bridge residents are seniors, having moved to the Presbyterian Homes’ 300 unit Marvella Campus since it opened in 2023. Another residential development, called The Lumin, is a CommonBond community comprising 60 units of income-restricted senior housing. Project for Pride in Living offers 75 housing units for working people in the Highland Park area at Nellie Francis Court. In addition, there are 60 units for women at Nellie Francis’ Restoring Waters.

Highland Bridge also comprises many units of owner-occupied housing, both row and single family homes. Among the Highland Bridge residents are people that have come out of homelessness, or have experienced trauma, or both. These are people who are in the process of restoring their lives, and we will be praying for them.
In our prayers, we will be asking for God’s blessings on those we observe, and may not observe. For those needing healing, we will pray for healing. For those in need of restoration, we will pray for restoration. For everyone, we will pray that they feel God's presence and love.

We also pray that God equips us to be instruments of His love.
