Episcopal Church Women
The old stereotype of Episcopal Church Women as ‘cooks’ and ‘fundraisers’ is fading as we move into the future with new ideas, relevant programs, and unlimited opportunities for spiritual growth and service. Support is available to you through Episcopal Church Women in your local parish, convocation or deanery, diocese, province, and nationally.
Almighty God, we pray that you will bless our work in mission and ministry in the world. Help us to pray fervently, labor diligently and give liberally to make known the power of your love given through your son Jesus Christ. Let us not forget the lessons from the past nor fear the challenges of the future. Anoint us with your grace and shine in our hearts as we reflect your light throughout the world. Amen
Women who support ECW are often in one or more of the following affiliated organizations as well:
UTO: United Thank Offering
The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, individuals are invited to embrace and deepen a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. UTO encourages people to notice the good things that happen each day, give thanks to God for those blessings and make an offering for each blessing using a UTO Blue Box. UTO is entrusted to receive the offerings, and to distribute the 100% of what is collected to support innovative mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion.
Gracious God, source of all creation, all love, all true joy: accept we pray these outward signs of our profound and continuing thankfulness for all of life. Keep each of us ever thankful for all the blessings of joy and challenge that come our way. Bless those who will benefit from these gifts through the outreach of the United Thank Offering. This we ask through Him who is the greatest gift and blessing of all, Jesus Christ. Amen.
CPC: Church Periodical Club
The Church Periodical Club is na Episcopal institution; its ministry is to supply books, magazines, tapes, videos and computer programs FREE to those who cannot otherwise obtain them and to raise the money to do this. The Church Periodical Club is changing the world one book at a time.
Bless 0 Lord, The Church Periodical Club, that it may be an instrument for the spread of your Word throughout the world. Grant to its officers wisdom and patience, to its members perseverance and the spirit of sharing that asks no return. Bring more to take part in its mission and ministry. Bless our gifts and those who receive them, to the enrichment of individual lives, that we all may be servants of the risen Lord. Amen.
EWHP: Episcopal Women’s History Project
To promote and encourage research, writing and publication in all matters touching upon the history of women in the Episcopal Church; To promote and encourage the collection and preservation of records and other artifacts of interest pertaining to such history; To foster and promote public knowledge of interest in such history.
O God, Creator of all life, bless the unsung lives of countless Christian women in every century who were your hands and feet, who kept alive your compassionate presence by feeding the hungry, nursing the sick clothing the naked, comforting the sad, praying and petitioning, strengthening those in prison, teaching the stories, sewing and singing, weeping and rejoicing. Grant us the wisdom to discern our ministries in this day as our foremothers found theirs; lead us in new and timeless forms of discipleship; and let us joyfully find our place in this procession of praise, offering our varied gifts and voices together with them and Mary, the Mother of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
GFS: Girls Friendly Society
Girls’ Friendly Society (GFS) provides ministry to girls in a safe and accepting environment where Christ’s love is evident. GFS-USA is a community within the Episcopal Church and a member of the World Council of GFS.
O Lord, Our Heavenly Father,
We beseech thee to bless us and all who belong to the Girls’ Friendly Society,
Strengthen and protect us by thy fatherly love,
And vouchsafe to us the guidance of thy Holy Spirit,
Help us all to bear one another’s burdens,
And to live, not for ourselves but for others as members of one family in Christ,
Cleanse us from our sins, make us holy by the indwelling of thy Holy Spirit,
And bring us all at last to the joy of thy heavenly kingdom,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
NAGA: National Alter Guild Association
NAGA assists parish, diocesan and provincial altar guilds by providing information and resources. By making itself aware of the great diversity among us Episcopalians, by staying abreast of liturgical changes not only in ceremony but also in the furnishings of worship, by helping solve contemporary altar guild problems, by spreading the word about who knows what “in altar guild country,” NAGA is the center of the altar guild network.
Most gracious Father Who has called me Your child to serve in the preparation of Your Altar, so that it may be a suitable place for the offering of Your Body and Blood; Sanctify my life and consecrate my hands so that I may worthily handle those Sacred Gifts which are being offered to You.
As I handle holy things, grant that my whole life may be illuminated and blessed by You, in whose honor I prepare them, and grant that the people who shall be blessed by their use, may find their lives drawn closer to Him Whose Body and Blood is our hope and our strength, Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Order of the Daughters of the King
Daughters of the King are women and girls between the ages of seven and one hundred and seven who desire a closer walk with the Lord. We are Christian women, both lay and ordained, who are strengthened through the discipline of a Rule of Life, and supported through the companionship of our sisters. We are all at different stages of our Christian journey – some have just begun and some have been on this path for a long time. But no matter where we are on our sacred journeys, our primary goal is the same – to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known to others.
O Eternal Father, you have sent us your Son to teach us things pertaining to your heavenly Kingdom. Give your blessing to our Order wherever it may be throughout the world. Grant that we, your Daughters, ever may discern your truth and bear the cross through the battles of our earthly life. Give us strength to overcome temptation and the grace to work to spread your Kingdom and to gather your scattered sheep within your fold. Pour out upon us the sevenfold gift of the Holy Spirit that we may always remember it is your work we are called to do, that all we think, do or say may be pleasing in your sight. We ask it all For His Sake, our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
