ECMN’s Racial Justice and Healing Commission will host a retreat for racial healing and justice-making on October 12th at Messiah Episcopal Church, Prairie Island. This in-person retreat utilizes our Eucharistic liturgy as a frame for understanding ministries of racial justice and healing as an integral element of our ongoing spiritual formation and discipleship.
This retreat has been planned in partnership with leaders from Messiah Episcopal Church on the Prairie Island reservation. Using the form of the Eucharist as a guide, the retreat will feature speakers from the congregation as well as from the tribe, who will share the history of the Dakota, the Dakota language and culture. They will focus on the impact of colonization and boarding schools on the community, and will weave together teaching alongside practices and activities that help participants have an immersive experience in the culture.
We will gather at Messiah on Saturday morning at 8:00am for coffee and breakfast and conclude our time at 5:30pm (lunch will be included). Please do not register if you cannot be present for the entirety of the retreat.
If you have questions please contact Kelsey Schuster at kelsey.s@episcopalmn.org.
When you register, you will be given the option to either attend the event for free, pay $30 to cover the cost of food and supplies, or pay $75 to make this retreat as accessible as possible for those who are not able to pay to attend.
