Shattuck-St. Mary's in Forest City Malaysia

Over the course of the last decade, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota has been working to expand its footprint around the globe. Recognizing that the task of developing partnerships and opening campuses throughout the world was a daunting and consuming task, the School established Shattuck-St. Mary’s Educational Services (SSMES) as a wholly owned subsidiary that is responsible for all global expansion initiatives. Nick Stoneman serves as the SSMES President.

After more than four years of planning and developing, SSM-Forest City (Malaysia) opened on August 23, 2018 and is expected to grow to 2,000 boarding and day students in Pre-K through Grade 12. Future expansion includes sites in China, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangkok, and Saudi Arabia, among others.

Nick Stoneman offered this comment: “The work we have done over the last decade both recruiting students for our main campus and exploring expansion campus opportunities has led to the establishment of SSM-FC, in Forest City, Malaysia, as well as exciting prospective campuses in a variety of other countries. Collectively, these new sites for the School offer a remarkable global learning opportunity to our students that will offer them meaningful preparation for their futures, and will provide unique and compelling professional pathways for our teachers.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s-Forest City (SSM-Forest City) opened its doors on August 23, 2018 for its first day of school. The campus is in a new community, Forest City, designed for 750,000 residents, located on a man-made island near Johor Bahru, Malaysia and adjacent to Singapore. It is part of a four-island residential, office, and retail community being developed by China’s Country Garden. Shattuck-St. Mary’s Educational Services (SSMES) is partnering with Country Garden to provide the staff and instruction for the Pre-K through Grade 12 school that will serve the new city’s residents, as well as up to 2,000 boarding students.

The first day at SSM-Forest City will be momentous as students in Pre-K through grade 10 – pioneers in their own right – help create the start to a school that is eventually expected to accommodate 3,200 students. SSM President, Nick Stoneman, plans to be on hand for opening day and reflects on this milestone event. “We have been working toward this day for over four years, and are very excited to see it becoming a reality and an exciting addition to the SSM family.”
